A pastor has been accused by the residents Kimwanyi Zone, Wandegeya of working untiringly behind the scenes to see their area chairman, Thomas Bagonza is arrested and kept behind bars.
The same residents also say Pastor Daniel Mulangila of Eternal Life Gospel Church on Binaisa road, Mulago is forcefully trying to have them evicted from their land.
He is aided by the police, they say.
“Mulangila reported a case that chairman Bagonza is defaming him and he was taken by police,” Fred Isabirye, the area Defense Secretary told Watchdoguganda on Thursday.
Bagonza was arrested on Wednesday, February 20 by a police officer residents identified as ‘Mugisha and taken to Wandengeya Police station before being whisked to Luzira Prison via Buganda Road court.
“Mugisha was sharing a car with Mulangila at the time of his arrest,” one resident – who preferred anonymity because they are living in fear since anyone who boldly speaks about Mulangila’s actions risks being arrested – said.
However deputy Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, told watchdoguganda that there was an arrest warrant for Bagonza from court.
“It’s a civil matter to do with land. Apart from arresting and handing him over to court, we didn’t have any file on him but it’s our duty when a warrant of arrest is issued by court, that we effect the arrest,” Onyango tells Watchdoguganda.
Now his residents say they will not shy away from expressing their determination to hold peace full demonstrations until there chairman is released.
Many describe him as one who has been fighting for their rights and are now worried of what lies ahead without him especially in such a scenario where the wave of eviction seems to bite any time from now.
Mulangira declined an interview with watchdoguganda.
