What is Community Journalism?

Community journalism is a focus on events and issues affecting local communities giving them a professional news coverage. Community journalism gives prominence to people and organisations in villages, small trading centres, suburbs, up country districts, etc. It helps bring out issues that affect the person at the grassroots for example, highlighting issues of education, public health, environment and climate change, innovations, opportunities and lack of it, etc. It
The media focusing on communities is important because it connects people and gives them a voice.
Watchdog Uganda brings interests in Ugandan communities together to create a personal impact on the readers.

Why fundraise for contributors?

We are a small business in an intensive capital investment industry and Watchdog Uganda seeks financial support wherever we can get it.

Our affordable advertising rates bring is some revenue but members of the public who support our work help us pay more attention to reporting professionally from our communities and helping our countrywide contributors be well facilitated to do a good job.

How does it work?

Readers contribute money the Writers’ Fund and we spend that money for our online infrastructure that enables us connect communities to reporters to cover important communities and topics and the vice versa.

How do I contribute?

Any amount is helpful.
Sincerely,
Mike Ssegawa
