Opposition MPs led by Kasese Woman MP Winnie Kiiza, the Leader of Opposition in parliament have today petitioned High Court to block the newly signed Age Limit Act.
On Tuesday, President Yoweri Museveni signed the contentious age limit bill into law.
Last month, 317 MPs voted for the passing of constitutional amendment (No. 2) bill 2017 which seeks to remove the presidential age limit whereas 97 legislators were against the amendments while two abstained.
Meanwhile, a group of NRM supporters on Wednesday stormed the High Court civil division protesting summons issued to the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to appear before court and explain why she suspended six MPs during the age-limit bill debate.
Six MPs including Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Allan Ssewanyana, Gerald Karuhanga, Jonathan Odur, Anthony Akol and Mubarak Manyangwa were suspended from the August house for allegedly masterminding chaos and missed out the debate as parliament finally passed the age limit bill.
“We’re here to show support for Rebecca Kadaga, she didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t see why these fake MPs like the Ssewanyanas and Munyagwas are making noise, they should even leave parliament, we’re coming for you in the next election,” one of the protesters exclaimed.
