Police in Kabale has in detention three security guards attached to SWAT security company for allegedly shooting and injuring a student of Kigezi high school.

The three have been identified as Moses Murengezi 23 , Mathew Akatuhurira,28 and Sulaiman Baryanazigu 24.

The injured student identified as Bright Akatukunda, 19 of senior five was shot in both legs and he is now admitted at Rugarama hospital.

The shooting incident happened on last week at around 9pm when students of senior six went wild against the security guards that were forcing them out of their dormitories for night classes. This sparked off a strike.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Sub Region Police spokesperson has confirmed the development, saying another security guard who was off duty was assaulted by students and he is also currently admitted.

“In the process, the students badly assaulted one of the security guards who was off duty at his place of residence in the school quarters identified as Sirivano Bakawerayo. He is also admitted at Rugarama hospital,” Maate said.

The students while rioting also damaged that school house that accommodates the guards.

The police immediately deployed to secure the school as the guards were arrested to help in investigations.
