Ntungamo Municipality Member of Parliament Mr Gerald Karuhanga has urged political leaders to embrace democratic principles enshrined in the nation’s constitution which he says would lead to the strengthening of constitutionalism, order and upholding the rule of law in the Country.
Karuhanga also has challenged government to respect the constitution, saying it is only the way that can lead to real democracy.
He made remarks on Saturday during the installation of the new Lions club Leaders for the Lions club of Ntungamo at a colorful scientific ceremony held at Club Trendies in Ntungamo Municipality.
The legislator hailed the Lions club International for upholding the clubs constitution with leaders serving a one year term of office asking the government to embrace such the values for a better Uganda.
“A new wave of leadership teaches political leaders to also know their time of leaving power, such that new leaders can take over. Political leaders should embrace lions club which respects their constitution. If we learnt this as a country while respecting the constitution, our democracy would be improved,” Karuhanga said.
Karuhanga and Paul Mwiru (Jinja East) recently joined the Alliance for National Transformation Party, which was founded by former Forum for Democratic Change President Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu.
He commended the Lion Club members for promoting the spirit of serving Ugandans regardless of their religion, race and political affiliations in a bid to improve social welfare of the communities.
The Bishop of South Ankole Diocese the Rt Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe urged the new leaders to serve God’s people with a reason and mission.
Ahimbisibwe hailed the outgoing president Mr. Perez Rumanzi for the achievement he made during the one year tenure.
The incoming president Charles Najuna thanked all Lions club members for entrusting him the mantle to take over the lion’s club leadership and promised to deliver service as it is expected.
