In a recent research by Agribusiness Alliance, Uganda is still grappling with technology gaps in agricultural activities such as land preparation, seed planting, crop management, field maintenance and harvesting among others that need to be addressed.

The findings further indicate that many farmers and enterprises depend on manual labor which is not only declining in supply but it is also a major source of inefficiency. Many factories in Uganda are below capacity due limited supply of raw materials.

And that’s why Promote Uganda Limited (PROUL) with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has come on board to launch the Annual Machine Exhibition in a move to make a substantial contribution in mechanizing Uganda.

The exhibition which will take place from 12- 16 November, 2019 at UMA show grounds Lugogo will be a medium through which the transfer of appropriate technology to Uganda’s small and medium enterprises will be realized.

The Annual Machine Exhibition will focus on promotion of value addition in the agricultural Sector which employs most Ugandans.

According to David Nsubuga, Director PROUL, the exhibition will also avail Ugandans an opportunity to get exposed to the new appropriate technology such as Sugarcane Juicers, Multi Grass Cutters, Walking Tractors, Multi Shcllers, Solar Powered Water Pumps, potato Peelers, Food Dehydrators, Cup Sealers, Bottle Labeling Machines and Food Preserving Machines that are intended to address the technology gaps.

“The objective is to promote the production of finished products. To supply export markets and our local supermarkets; which Will boost the incomes of the enterprises and Uganda at large,” he said.

Adding, “The supply of these machines will be accompanied by reliable maintenance services and  nationwide distribution of the machines through the Uganda National Farmers’ Federation (UNFFE) With Whom We signed an MOO.”

Mr Nsubuga further revealed that they are currently setting up their first showroom at Plot 10 A Jinja Road where those interested in the machines will make their orders.

“We shall also work with national Micro Finance Institutions like Platinum Credit Limited to provide financing to those who may need it.”
