Eight held at Kisoro police for allegedly stealing Shs16 million

Police in Kisoro district is holding eight people including members of the same family following a case of alleged burglary.

The thieves allegedly stole Shs16 million in the night of May 10, from a shop along main street in Kisoro Municipality.

Elly Maate,the Kigezi region police spokesperson told watchdog Uganda they broke into the shop of clothes that belongs to Mr. Charles Nkyikabahizi, 54  of Mugwata village, Gisozi parish, Muramba subcounty Kisoro (complainant) and took money that was left inside.

The arrested include; Nyirarukundo Beyata, a 38-year-old wife of  Nkyikabahizi, two sons Tumushime Moses and Mugabe Robert. Also in custody is Mbabazi a daughter as well as a 20-year-old herdsman called Ndatimana. Ndungutse Elly, a boda boda rider, Niyomubyeyi Bonivencha, a mobile money operator and  Kayumba Bosco a special hire driver were also arrested.

According to Maate, these suspects were arrested after the night watch man gave police the registration number of a silver Toyota Premio silver used during the theft.

Police immediately swung into action and arrested Kayumba who then revealed that it’s the wife to the complainant who convinced him and others including his children to enter the deal.

“The woman claims that Nkyikabahizi doesn’t care about the family,” Maate said.

Inquiries on going as well as the hunt for the rest of the suspects still at large.

This case has been registered at Kisoro police under file number SD: 09/11/5/2019.
