African countries have been challenged to embrace the improved climate change warning mechanism to detect early enough the disaster prune areas.

According to European Union Volunteer in Uganda Anna Rurup this will avert the disaster related incidents to human beings which have resulted into loss of lives and property in Eastern and others of South Western Uganda.

Rurup noted that when these warning systems are procured and followed it will enable communities to shift to safe places for their lives.

She made remarks on Thursday  during a two  day retraining workshop f members of the Uganda Change Agent Association (UCAA) from nine districts of Kisoro, Kabale, Kanungu, Bushenyi, Mbarara, Rukungiri, Masaka, Ntungamo and Rakai all in South Western Uganda held at Ntungamo Resort Hotel Ntungamo Municipality.

Uganda Change Agent it’s both a grass root membership and a service provision national organization which was started in 1992 and registered as NGO to promote the participation of vulnerable communities in the decision making, control and protection of their livelihoods for sustainable development.

Rurup also requested governments to enact laws against building on unstable slopes to protect people from landslides.

It has over 4,000 trained change agents organized in 230 branches countrywide.

Uganda has faced a number of disasters such as displacement, famine, earthquakes, floods and landslide and averagely 200,000 people per year are affected by disaster.

The secretary board Uganda Change Agent Mbeine Elias implored the trained members to advocate for vulnerable areas such as flood and landslide prune areas in their communities.

Mbeine appealed to them to consider the objective of the association but no to change the policies of the government.

The programs manager Emokol Julius agitated for the creation and enforcement of building regulations to protect the lives of people.

Emokol asked the members to practice what they have been taught if they are to achieve the visible fruits.

While closing the training, the RDC Ntungamo Justine Mbabazi who was represented by deputy District Internal security officer (DISO) Musinguzi Pison hailed the European Union for considering Ugandans by extending services aimed at promoting self reliant citizens.
