Yesterday morning, unknown people dropped threatening letters at the homes of heads of Crime Preventers.

The notices were threatening the crime Preventers leaders of dire consequences if they don’t denounce police chief Gen Kale Kayihura.

“Notice!: Notice!! “U” as leaders of the crime preventers we have given u only 14 days to disown Kale Kayihura as your patron and as an IGP publically, failure to do that, u shall face our wrath and consequences. Stand warned!! Stand Warned!!!” some of the notices read.

Following the threats, now police have taken a decision to give these leaders protection.

On Monday, the Kampala Metropolitan Police commander, Frank Mwesigwa met the crime preventers’ leaders to assess the threats.

According to Daily Monitor, seven leaders for crime preventers have been accorded two police guards each to cater for their security.

‘Crime Preventers’ is the group that has been for the past two years associated with community policing throughout the country. The group is seen as allied to police chief Gen Kale Kayihura.
