One of the best private Universities in Uganda, Victoria University has entered into a partnership with United Kingdom’s Coventry University to train and equip Ugandans with oil and gas skills as a way of fitting favourably in today’s job market as far as the sector is concerned.
Present to sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on behalf of Victoria University was the Vice Chancellor Dr. Krishna N. Sharma. On the other hand,Augustine Ifelebuegy and John Latham signed on behalf of the UK-based University.
Speaking to the media shortly after the event, the University Vice Chancellor noted: “It’s a big opportunity for Victoria University as we are ready to contribute to this so fast growing Oil and Gas sector.”
Ministry of Education Assistant commissioner and project coordinator (skills development project) Loy Mbaine Muhwezi, who was also present as the function, lauded Victoria University for the great milestone.
The development comes at a backdrop after President Yoweri Museveni urged reputable private educators to consider starting up private technical schools aimed at skilling Ugandans with oil skills in order to be employed in the national and global oil sectors.
Museveni observed that venture would be better than allowing oil companies to start up training schools and later deduct money from Uganda’s oil. He also noted that this would be a lucrative business to the owners since some parents and government would pay for students enrolled in those private technical skilling schools.
