Reports reaching our desk indicate that security have this evening closed Namanve based tabloid, Red Pepper.
This website understands that security moved to close the newspaper after it published a story on Monday that Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni was planning to overthrow his counterpart in Rwanda.
The story which was first published by a website in Rwanda, kicked off a storm that the ministry of foreign affairs responded, branding the newspaper “irresponsible”.
The development comes at the time relations between Rwanda and Uganda are suspected to be tense after senior police commanders were rounded up by CMI and detained on accusations of among others, kidnapping refugees and handing them over to another country. That country is understood to be Rwanda.
Uganda and Rwanda, according to the statement from foreign affairs ministry are enjoying cordial relations as ever.
