Leading telecommunications giants Airtel Uganda Limited has on Monday, 6th November 2017 renewed their partnership with Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) as Uganda Cranes main sponsors, FUFA Juniors League, Airtel Rising Stars, FUFA Uganda Cup and the FUFA Big League.

The new new sponsorship is worth Ug.shs 10 billion for a period of four years.

It was officially unveiled at Serena International Hotel in Kampala before a fully packed media presence.

FUFA was ably represented by the President, Eng Moses Magogo and FUFA staff, Airtel Uganda Limited’s delegation was led by the Managing Director, VG Somasekhar and Government was represented by the state minister of sports Hon. Charles Bakabulindi.

Uganda Cranes team captain Dennis Onyango and his vice Hassan Wasswa Mawanda represented the players.

‘These are 4  more years to write a new history in Uganda’s football circles. The Shs 10 Billion contribution is to make a meaningful investment in football development. The recognition of individuals at international level is success for the entire country.Life in Uganda can be summarized in three words. Eat, Sleep and play football. To the players, play for the name on the front of the shirt and remember the name at the back. Airtel Uganda is committed to serve football for the next 4 years, like we have done for the previous 4 years. Football has the power to unite the different cultures and social back grounds as well as develop communities’ Airtel Uganda M.D, VG Somasekhar.

An ecstatic FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo lauded the main sponsors for the renewal of the partnership.

‘I thank Airtel Uganda for this renewal. Coaches, players, referees create the football product which is marketable to the fans and sponsors and regulated by Government. This is the biggest sponsorship in the history of this country. It is not about today but the future. Airtel Uganda even supported FUFA in the regional campaigns and the FUFA Awards for two years now. I  also thank the Government of Uganda for the support throughout the AFCON and World Cup qualification campaigns.’ FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo.

Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango saluted the contribution of Airtel Uganda to football right from the grass roots.

‘I would not have made it to the top without the team and the sponsorship of Airtel Uganda Limited. It means a lot to us and footballers and as country. Since Airtel Uganda Limited came on board, we have seen a lot of progress

Right from the Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) and regional tours, they have done a great deal. People are excited to see the local stars of national team through the regional tours. Football brings hope to everyone. Airtel Uganda has done a lot for football in Uganda. Airtel Uganda has taken the team to the next level and steered us to the right direction’ Onyango said in a moving speech.

This is arguably the biggest sports sponsorship in Uganda and for football in particular, thanks to the able leadership of the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo.

Uganda Cranes other sponsors include Nile Breweries Limited, Eco Bank and National Insurance Corporation (NIC).

The Cranes entered camp in preparation for the final 2018 FIFA World Cup group E away qualifier against Congo Brazzaville on 12th November 2017.
