Uganda was well represented in this year’s AFRIMAs in Accra, Ghana as artistes Bebe Cool, Irene Namatovu and Sandra Nankoma scoopes awards in various categories.
Bebe Cool defeated Sauti sol (Kenya), Harmonize (Tanzania) Diamond Platinumz (Tanzania), Khaligraph Johns (Kenya), Nyashinski (Kenya) among others to be crowned best male artiste in East Africa.
Though her nomination came as a surprise, Sandra Nankoma also managed to bag the award for Best Inspirational Music given the message behind her ‘Kaddugala’ song. She was in the race with artistes like Amanda Malela (DRC), DJ Lee (Ethiopia), Gloria Muliro (Kenya), Ogecha (Nigeria), and Janet Otieno (Kenya).
Da Nu Eagles musician Irene Namatovu also won Best Traditional Song, after ‘Nsambila nyuma Nga Njanzi’ wooed many Africans and thus voting for it. She was in that category with artistes like Bombino (Niger), Harouna (Mali), Teni (Nigeria) Wutah (Ghana) among others
