The Deputy Resident City Commissioner (DRCC)- Kawempe Division, Mr. Kagenyi Lukka has cautioned students of Kawempe Muslim Secondary School against involving themselves in unproductive and distractive activities such as drug abuse, criminality and idleness, saying they are detrimental to their bright future.
“But you, students of Kawempe Muslim, have a special duty. You must be the _light of Kawempe_. When others are stealing, you study. When others are insulting, you respect. When others are idle, you create. That is patriotism,” he said.
Mr. Kagenyi made the remarks yesterday while addressing students of Kawempe Muslim Secondary School during the launch of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) mentorship session.
He explained that through the patriotism sessions, the President and Uganda as a country is investing in students to be responsible citizens.
“Do not waste it. In 10 years, some of you will sit in Parliament, others will run hospitals, others will build roads. But it starts with the decision you make today: “I will be a patriotic Ugandan.”

Mr. Kagenyi also reminded the learners of their roles as young patriots.
“Love Uganda with Action, not only words. Love means keeping your classroom clean, respecting your teacher, and refusing to join riots or tribal talk. A true patriot does not destroy what his parents built,” he said.
“Work Hard & Be Skilled. Uganda does not need complainers. Uganda needs problem solvers. Whether you become a doctor, mechanic, software engineer, or farmer – do it with excellence. The boy selling mandazi at the school gate can become the next owner of a factory. Patriotism is waking up early, doing homework, and saying “I will not be average.”
He further tasked them to defend unity and respect others.
“You are Muslim students, but Uganda has Christians, Catholics, Baganda, Acholi, Banyankole, Basoga – all one. A patriot does not ask “What tribe are you?” A patriot asks “How can I help you?” The day we start fighting over tribe and religion is the day we lose Uganda. Our flag has 3 colors because we are many, but one nation,” he noted.
