The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced new parking rates for Entebbe International Airport, set to take effect on November 1, 2024. This marks the first fee adjustment in over 15 years as part of efforts to enhance airport facilities and improve passenger experience through upgraded facilities and better infrastructure.

The statement released on Monday by Vianney Mpuuga Luggya, the Manager of Public Affairs at UCAA, noted that the current parking rates, which have been in effect since October 2009, no longer cover the rising costs of maintaining and upgrading the airport’s parking facilities.

“This long-standing fee structure and the increasing costs of upkeep have made the increment necessary. Regular updates to these fees are crucial to ensuring continued service and enhanced convenience for all airport users,” Luggya explained.

The new rates, designed to reflect both short-term and long-term parking needs, will see charges for saloon cars and station wagons set at UGX 5,000 for the first hour, while vans and minibuses will be charged UGX 8,000. Lorries, trailers, trucks, and buses will face a UGX 10,000 fee for the first hour. For each extra hour, all categories will incur an additional UGX 1,000 charge.

Long-term parking rates will start at UGX 30,000 for the first day, with subsequent days charged at UGX 10,000. However, to discourage extended vehicle stays, any vehicle parked for more than 30 days will incur a daily charge of UGX 200,000. UCAA advises airport users to avoid leaving their cars in long-term parking for extended periods.

Monthly Parking Rates for Airport Users

The monthly parking rates have been restructured to accommodate both resident and non-resident users. Airport employees and frequent visitors will have access to tiered rates, with charges ranging from UGX 60,000 to UGX 100,000 for saloon cars and UGX 90,000 to UGX 120,000 for vans and minibuses. Non-residents will pay higher rates, with charges up to UGX 180,000 for vans and minibuses and UGX 240,000 for lorries and trucks.

Justification for the Increment

Luggya emphasized that the fee adjustments are in line with global standards. “Airport entry and parking payments are standard practices worldwide, serving as key revenue sources for maintaining and improving parking facilities. At Entebbe, these changes will ensure that users enjoy a better and more seamless parking experience and that the airport can continue to provide world-class services,” he said.

The decision to revise the fees comes as part of UCAA’s broader effort to upgrade Entebbe International Airport’s facilities. This includes not only improving the parking areas but also enhancing the overall passenger experience through various infrastructure developments.
