State House Comptroller Barekye cautions leaders against corruption in Zonal Industrial Hubs

The State House Comptroller, Madam Jane Barekye, has cautioned leaders against politicizing the enrolment process of the youths to be skilled at all Zonal Industrial Hubs adding that they must be transparent and select mainly those that are economically disadvantaged.

“Don’t pick people because they are your voters. So corruption is out. Popularise the project and select genuine economically disadvantaged youths who are sober, committed, willing and are interested in learning skills,” Barekye counselled.

The State Comptroller made the remarks this afternoon at a meeting with the leadership of Ankole sub-region at the regional hub in Rushozi village, Rubaya Sub-County, Kashaari County in Mbarara district.

Madam Barekye was in the subregion to acquaint leaders with the aim of the Industrial Hub, their role as leaders and to bring them on board to own the facility for its success.

“We are here today to bring you on board to be part of the project and to participate in its management to make the institution very productive,” she said.

She informed leaders the criteria of selecting beneficiaries and also those to oversee the activities carried out at the Hub.

She announced that a paper processing plant will be availed at the Hub to add value to the banana fiber to improve the house hold income of banana farmers in the area.

The Director of Industrial Hubs and Presidential Projects at State House, Eng. Raymond Kamugisa, informed Ankole leaders that this is a short cut to Middle Income status as a country and urged all leaders to embrace the initiative championed by President Yoweri Museveni.

The Private Secretary to the President on Political Affairs and Youths, Mr. Godfrey Longa, called on RDCs to sensitise the public about the achievements of the NRM government, ongoing development programs as well as those planned for the good of society.

The representative of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Mr. Julius Muhairwe emphasized the importance of mindset change.
He asked leaders to exploit the four pillars of Production, Processing, Storage and Marketing to align with the Parish Development Model (PDM).

The RDC Mbarara district, Mr. Rogers Mbabazi, commended President Museveni for the Initiative pointing out that the Hubs will help society in attaining Socio-economic transformation.

He also thanked the State House Comptroller for her clear explanation on what is to be done at the Hub and pledged to cooperate with all the stake holders to make the project a success.

Earlier, the leaders were conducted on a guided tour of the facility by the manager of the Hub, Ms. Glorious Tukundane.
