Ugandans on social media have lashed out at the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for claiming that some people are planning to riot in order to stop President Yoweri Museveni from swearing-in come 12 May, 2021.

While addressing journalists on Monday, the army spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso said that there’s a group of individuals who are mobilizing to sabotage the swearing ceremony and have drafted placards such as ‘TAJJA KULAYIRA NO’MUGANDA AFUGEKO’ and ‘NGA 1st MAY KUSIIBA TUGOBE ABAHIMA’.

“Not to sound political, we are all aware that the president of Uganda who is the commander in chief of the armed forces has in very clear terms warned against such tribal and sectarian tendencies. They are not only negative but they also affect the socioeconomic transformation of Ugandans and Uganda as a country but also the region as a whole. But most importantly the enemies who want to erode Uganda’s hard-earned peace and stability,” Brig Byekwaso said.

“As forces, we are hereby re-affirming our resolve to fight all negative forces including divisive tendencies and propaganda and person or persons who stand in the path of peace and stability becomes an enemy to the country and shall therefore be dealt with decisively.”

However, according to some netizens, UPDF possibly want to create last November 18/19-like environment which it could use to torture and kill innocent people in the name of protecting the country from any subversive actions.

See comments:

“Diversion guys stay awake no one but themselves now they have nothing to do but arresting innocent people free Uganda and Ugandan plus our king of Buganda,” said Nanyanzi Sylvia.

Peter Muweezi said, “But it’s a pity for security organs to start engaging in the propaganda of politics!!! You think we don’t know that you can print those placards and accuse Nup supporters to get the reason for their Manhunt and tortures as it was after November mass shootings of innocent Ugandans and again said Nup was planning to burn the city and you got a reason of gruesome tortures, drone abductions and imprisonment without trials. Unfortunately, those accusations were all lies!!!! But the president you serve promised to crush the group of kyagulanyi which again means crushing all his supporters because of them not supporting him!!!! Fortunately, We shall all die. Whether you who have power, money, authority, guns, prisons etc and us innocent civilians. And the time of judgement will meet us all together.”

“Am here sitting on my couch wondering how the army gets you with all that and doesn’t arrest you there and then! Am seriously worried for our Muslim brothers who are scapegoats for any treason charges! But this time keep us out of this! We are fasting!” said Eng Hussein Zaid.

Frank Ganyana said, “You can’t even feel ashamed you criminals. Why can’t you hold pictures of the people whose eyes and fingers are plucked off, who are castrated, who are being raped in legal and illegal detentions, people who are facing horrible tortures? And you here holding this nonsense that you wrote yourselves. You people are nothing but hell.”

“Why don’t you tell us where you found those posters and also the culprits with clear video and audio proofs? I strongly believe there are no such things only that some individuals as we all know want to use it as an opportunity to ask for money from the Mzee that boasting security. Enough of your drama, stop creating panic, we are looking for money to feed our families,” Nelly Payn noted.

Kasirye Musa Bilikadde said, “Give us corroborating evidence that Baganda wrote them. Stop those dangerous games on a cliff. Protect all Ugandans but not criminalizing one tribe for the power games. Mr. Museveni will not be in power until judgement day. Another person will come in and accountability will be done. Think about what you will be after what you are. For God and my country Uganda. If this is where we are heading, it’s time I jump out of this NRM bus. This is silly.”

“Was the presidential aspiring between tribes or political parties why do you play tribe foolery a government that can embezzle and swindle billions can’t it fail to design such. This is drama just. Concocted findings. We all know how the Government operates,” said David Baguma.
