Police have arrested four of their own officers for sharing a nude video clip which they recorded from the suspects.
On September 7, 2019, Police field officers working along Jinja highway caught a couple making love in their car near Kakira Sugar works main gate.
However, instead of arresting and charge them for being a public nuisance, the four officers including Corporal Magala Mathew, Police Constable (PC) Ssemakula Musa, PC Ndyanabo Jonathan and PC Mayengo Joel went ahead and recorded the suspects half-naked. Later the video was shared from one of their phones which became viral on all social media platforms.
Police Spokesman Fred Enanga told journalists on Monday, that the territorial Police in Kiira region with the Zonal field force unit were forced to arrest the four field force officers and charged them with discreditable conducts.
“These four officers should have arrested the two lovers and charged them with public nuisance at that time but they went ahead and recorded a video and again shared images, such acts are not tolerable in Police,” he said.
Enanga added that recording suspects and share videos is a serious matter because the victims were put under a vulnerable situation and officers took advantage of them by having fun and jokes about their situation which was not proper.
“The victims deserve to be angry and upset since the behaviour of our officers were too immoral. Such actions don’t appeal to the public especially to people who are parents we need to respect them and their families,
“As an organisation, we expected the highest level of integrity especially in the teams that carry out highway patrols and force at large. We would like to inform the public that there is no place in our institution for individuals who choose to manipulate the laws,” said Enanga.
He, however, added that Police uses and encourages recording for pieces of evidence but not for fun and making suspects disrespected in public and their families.
“Such recording are valued for evidential purposes like how they had done but when it goes to making fun of victims is against all Police orders.”
