Youth have been urged to adopt saving culture in order to eradicate poverty for themselves and their communities at large.
This was said on Saturday by Patience Kukunda, the Educate Uganda program officer Ntungamo district during the interschool’s skills retreat at Standard College Ntungamo.
Educate Uganda is an NGO that was founded by Erick Glaston and is based in Kampala focusing on developing young leaders and entrepreneurs through secondary schools in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.
Kukunda noted that most young people have resorted to luxurious life thus failed to sustain themselves in future.
She revealed that this will help students to form groups and train them life skills such as making liquid soap, baking bread, Shoe polish and making papers from local products.
The host head teacher Luyimbazi Boaz of Standard College Ntungamo hailed the Educate Uganda for introducing vocational skills in secondary schools where students have been fed on theory rather than hands on concepts.
Students from nine schools thanked mentors for proving them with various skills which will help them in future to be job creators not job creators.
Schools participated were Standard College, Ntungamo HS, Ruhanga Adventist SS, Muriisa SS, Rugarama SS,Ntungamo Modern, Kiyoora HS, St Paul HS Rushooka and Kikoni Adventist SS and the remaining nine schools will be trained next week on Friday 29thJune 2018.
