The President’s donation was made during the victory thanksgiving ceremony for the Katakwi district NRM woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Akurut Violet. The ceremony took place on Saturday at Toroma Boy’s Primary School playgrounds.

Turning to the struggle for the banishment of household poverty, he urged the people to fully appreciate the need to create wealth for themselves by embracing the four-acre model of production. He said that government has already carried out doing its task of creating peace and extending development to all parts of the country adding that it is now incumbent on wananchi to brace up and shoulder their responsibility of creating wealth for themselves in order to grapple with their domestic chores. He informed the people of the area that government would lend a hand to those who embrace production activities geared towards the banishment of household poverty.

“The place had been in chaos since 1965 and people had to leave their homes. Now that people have come back because we created peace by removing guns from Karimojong. Government has, therefore, created and laid a foundation for peace and development. Household wealth creation is your work now,” he said.

President Museveni advised the youth to lead healthy lives by guarding against the HIV/AIDS pandemic and refrain from consumption of alcohol, which he observed, makes them become useless to society.

On her part, Katakwi district Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Violet Akurut, thanked her constituents and the President for standing by her during her campaigns and also when she was taken to court. She commended President Museveni for coming to the rescue of Katakwi district when it was hit by drought and famine. She requested the President to establish an irrigation system in the district as a lasting solution to the menace of drought that affects the area so much.
