The Ministry of Public Service has issued a dress code for non-uniformed officers in the public service.
According to the statement, section F-J of the Uganda Public Service standing orders,2010 provides for dress code in the public service , specifically , paragraph 4 stipulates that a public officer is required to dress decently and in the general acceptable standards in the Uganda Community.
“It has however been observed that Public Officers have continued to dress in a manner that does not portray a good image of the service and does not fall within the generally acceptable standards of the community,” statement partly reads.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwiire states that female public servants should dress in skirts that are not above the knees with a smart long or short sleeved blouse, ensure the clothing covers the cleavage, knees, navel and back as well not to come to work in open shoes among others.
On the side of male public servants, Musingwiire says, they must dress in neat trousers, long sleeved shirts, jacket and a tie, no putting on open shoes except on doctor’s recommendation, tight fitting trousers will also not be permitted and only black and brown shoes should be worn to office premises.
