Former Ethics and Integrity Miria Matembe has said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Kale Kayihura was appointed for another three years as Police Chief to again torture Ugandans like he has been doing before.

While appearing on NBS TV’s Frontline show on Thursday, the human rights activist stated that she was very happy that the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga allowed MPs to go to Nalufenya Police detention Centre but sad because she announced it since it was a warning sign to torturers that they must prepare adding that Kayihura was reappointed into office to torture more Ugandans.

“ I’m very happy that Kadaga allowed MPs to go to Nalufenya but I’m sad that she announced it. Those people prepared. I want to tell Kaguta Museveni his wife that this must stop; we can’t go back to where we came from. IGP Kayihura has been appointed for another three years again to torture Ugandans,” said Matembe.

She further said torture is against the Uganda Constitution urging Ugandans to rise up to fight against this kind of impunity.

“Inhuman treatment is forbidden by the Constitution. Torture is hidden because it’s more serious. Ugandans should please rise up and refuse the rule of impunity,”
