As the heatmap for the next general elections intensifies, a 30-year-old lawyer Nakaketo Aisha, with deep ties to Ibanda District announced her intentions to contest for the Woman Member of Parliament position come 2026.

Nakaketo, a professional lawyer with expertise in human rights across East and Central Africa is ready to unseat the incumbent Woman MP, Hon Jane Bainomugisha. Her knowledge and applicability of law at both Ugandan and international levels make her the right candidate to represent the people of Ibanda.

Nakaketo is well-acquainted with parliamentary procedures and has expressed her commitment to using this knowledge to drive meaningful change once given the mantle.

The founder and CEO of Aisha Swaibu and Lord Jian Foundation which has been actively involved in community service has already engaged the electorate before through various investments and assistance to the people of Ibanda.

In her own words, she says; “Ibanda needs a transformative, able, and dedicated leader who can galvanize people towards positive change. For me, the time is now. I am convinced that we can impact the lives of our children, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, and grandparents in Ibanda.”

“Ibanda district is my home and Ibanda people are My people and Ibanda is a place that God has placed on my heart to be a servant because together we can cause a transformation that will impact the lives of our people” Ms Nakaketo noted, adding that in her campaign, she is promising to “focus on youth empowerment with her extensive network of local and international friends and partners to lobby for opportunities that will benefit the youths in Ibanda.”

“As a youth myself, I understand the challenges that young people face, and I am committed to lobbying support for the young generation,” she said. The vibrant young lawyer explained that her youth-focused approach has already garnered significant backing from young people in the district and therefore promised to tackle other challenges in the area including educational and economic opportunities, enhance local infrastructure, and address pressing social issues like youth unemployment and inadequate healthcare.

The Ibanda Woman MP hopeful said she also intends to advocate for agricultural reforms that will empower farmers in Ibanda and ensure sustainable development in the district.

 who is Aisha Nakaketo

Born and raised in Ibanda District, the vibrant Nakakento brings vast experience in law, human rights advocacy and community development which she believes will propel her to make a significant impact in the lives of her people in Ibanda District.

A granddaughter of the late Muganda Yusuf and daughter of the late Swaibu Bbare Muganda, Nakaketo grew up in Ibanda, where she attended several local schools, including Rugarama Primary School, Ibanda Town School, Kagongo Parents, Muganda Memorial Primary School, and Boma Primary School, where she sat for her Primary Leaving Examinations.

She attended Summaya Girls High School, Nabisunsa Girls School and Aisha Girls High School where she obtained her Uganda Certificate of Education and later joined Standard College Ntungamo for her A-Level studies.

Nakaketo’s higher education was inspired by her strong passion for justice and law which saw her a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Criminal Justice from Gretious School of Law and Nkumba University. This academic foundation later laid the groundwork for her impressive legal career in both academia and practice.

She has worked as a lecturer at Uganda Pentecostal University from 2022 to 2023 and currently serves as an associate at Ingura & Co. Advocates.

Nakaketo also gained significant experience working as a personal assistant to General Muheesi Geoffrey from 2019 to 2021 and in the Department of Transport at the UNHCR and currently working with Feel of Africa Rights Alliance as a regional coordinator.

Nakaketo’s extensive professional background, combined with her deep roots in the Ibanda community, position her as a strong contender for the Woman MP seat.

Her message of unity, progress, service and youth empowerment aligns with many voters who are eager for new leadership and fresh perspectives in the district’s political landscape
