The P.R.O industries, a grain producing company located in Ndibulungi Luweero is on the verge of facing payment amounting to sh 350 million in compensation for the losses uncured by Allan Kyobe according to Brilliant Minds Legal services and damage caused by the reckless disposal of industrial waste and environmental degregation making water from the community well unusable, heavily contaminated and destroying Kyobe’s 60 acres of crops and Plants completely.
” This Company has been wrongly and unlawfully dumping waste into indibulungi wetland and this action has caused severe damage to the community water resource, fish, Vegetation and damage of crops with 400 million,”said Allan Kyobe.
” We have reached out to NEMA Luweero who sent their officer on ground to establish the problem and they realized the dumping of waste and a notice of License revocation is going to be issued if they fail to adhere to environmental protection,”added Allan Kyobe.
NEMA Uganda strictly regulates dumping under the 2020 waste management regulations prohibiting littering, promoting waste hierarchy and Lincesing waste handlers to prevent improper disposal with heavy penalities for violations like illegal dumping that causes environmental harm or Public nuisance.
The NEMA standards also require that all waste must be transported to a waste management facility that is authorized by the environment body to handle hazardous waste.
Several residents who get clean water from the community well cry foul over this illegal waste disposal claiming that it contravenes sawage disposal regulation and they are disappointed with Police acting as agents of Impunity because they have not been helped.
