Police in Kisoro District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of Benard Ngarambe, 35, whose body was discovered on Tuesday morning, sparking fear and concern among residents.
According to the Kisoro District Incident Report, Ngarambe, a Rwandese national and resident of Kidandari Trading Centre, received a phone call from an unidentified individual instructing him to meet, which he objected to.
Witnesses told local authorities that unidentified attackers forced entry through the kitchen door using a crowbar. According to accounts from several villagers, one of the assailants fired a gunshot that made neighbours run for safety.
His body was later found lying unresponsive near the trading centre.
District CID Officer D/ASP Johnson Babiiha led a team comprising homicide detectives, a canine unit, and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) to examine the site.
Superintendent of Police Samson Kasasira, Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed that the body bore a gunshot wound in the neck and visible body injuries.
“Preliminary findings suggest Ngarambe may have been killed elsewhere and his body later dumped at the scene,” SP Kasasira said.
Canine investigations led officers to a deserted washing bay about 50 metres from where the body was recovered, but no arrests have yet been made.
Police have appealed to the public to provide information that could help identify the perpetrators.
The deceased’s body has since been taken to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Local leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to restore calm and bring those responsible to justice.
Efforts to locate and contact the deceased’s family have so far been unsuccessful, as their current whereabouts could not be independently verified.
It is alleged that the deceased, Ngarambe, co-owned a grocery business with his cousin, Immaculate Mutamba however, attempts to reach Mutamba and other family members have also proved futile, with no confirmation of their location.
Further attempts to obtain additional details about the family situation through Christine Namukasa, a business associate, alleged to have spoken to the deceased last were equally unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the deceased’s body remains unclaimed in the morgue.
Authorities have not publicly linked the killings to a single cause.
However, several individuals interviewed for this report suggested that tensions affecting Rwandan nationals living abroad may be a contributing factor for their death.
Some sources alleged that different armed groups operating in the region attempt to recruit individuals of Rwandan origin and those who resist recruitment are either killed or tortured in a mysterious manner.
Ever since the Kampala regime adopted its anti-Rwanda hostility, getting into bed with Kayumba Nyamwasa’s Rwanda National Congress (RNC) and other anti-Rwanda groups, innocent Rwandans have been targeted for a variety of reasons.
They capture the young and able-bodied, forcing them to join RNC as rebel recruits. So many are reported to refuse, and suffer appalling physical abuse or death.
Also, RNC agents working hand in hand with the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) identify well-to-do Rwandans, to try to recruit them as fundraisers for “the cause of regime changes in Kigali.” Many of these too have found themselves abducted on concocted charges, and tortured.
