MPs sitting on the Public service and Local government committee are bitter over government consultant engineers conniving with contractors to put up shoddy works at the expense of huge public funds.

The committee members made bitter expressions while interfacing with the team of officials from the ministry of Local government led by the minister of local government Rapheal Magyezi over Moroto market on which government spent 20 billion shillings but before completion its full of cracks and the veranda is divorcing the market structure.

The committee members who include Workers MP Agnes Kunihira,Aswa county MP Simon Peter Wokorach and Kiruhura district woman MP Jovanice Twinobusingye said government should blacklist government consultant engineers who aid contractors in erecting shoddy buildings of government projects like markets ,schools ,roads and bridges.

Some committee members like Bulamogi county MP and Bukonzo west MP Atkins katusabe and Buhweju west MP Ephraim Biraro proposed that the contractors of moroto market should not be paid their balance fee until poor work is corrected or dragged to court to refund.

The committee chairperson Godfrey Onzima revealed that in the field tour they made to Moroto market they found out that there were heavy cracks due to poor designs of the market structure foundation, saying that the people of Moroto got a raw deal for this project.

Onzima said that government consultant engineers are being compromised by the project contractors to allow unacceptable works for government projects which show cracks before the set out defect liability period.

However, the minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi told the committee that his ministry is going to carryout investigation on Moroto market works and assess the cause of the defects and make a report and action is taken against any person who could have caused it.
