As Kabale Youth joined the rest of the world to commemorate international youth day, kabale district leaders launched a fruit Tree Planting program in Kabale District.

International Youth Day is celebrated annually on 12 August to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and to celebrate the potential of youth as active partners in the global society.

The theme of International Youth Day 2021 is, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”, with the aim of highlighting that the success of such a global effort will not be achieved without the meaningful participation of young people.

Speaking on Thursday during the launching of planting of fruit trees at Kabale Regional Remand Home at Kikungiri hill southern Division Kabale Municipality, Tadeo Taremwa, the Kabale district youth chairperson noted that their intention is to ensure that each household has a fruit tree.

He added that they have in plan to plant a million trees, saying that this will boost people’s health energy and acquire herbal medicine.

Taremwa emphasized the need for the youth to be involved in agriculture and Government programs in a move to reduce unemployment in their communities.

Monicah Muhumuza, the Kabale district senior probation officer, revealed that they have chosen tree planting to assist everyone and the environment at large.

Muhumuza noted that Tree planting is a major source of good air to the community as well.

Tree fruits that will be planted include avocados, oranges, mangoes, apples, lemons among others.
