The minister of health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has been shocked by the sorry state of health centers in Kabale district during her Kigezi sub region visit.

Most of the health centers visited didn’t have staff quarters, had no water, others had structures that were dilapidated.

Most of them didn’t have access to electricity, which is one of the most essential services that must be at a hospital.

Accompanied by the state minister for planning in the ministry of finance David Bahati, Aceng almost refused to enter into Kakomo Health Center IV, which is a few miles from the former’s home.

“I have nothing to see here,” Minister Aceng was said after seeing the dilapidated Kakomo hospital that even had no water for use.

Aceng further with disappointment was shocked to see the delivery bed that only contained a mattress with no blanket or even bed sheets in a very dilapidated hall.

“They even deliver from here? I have seen everything I wanted to see. Let’s go,” the minister angrily said.

Davis Byamukama, in charge at Kitoma health center III Speaking to watchdog Uganda said their clinic has no maternity ward, no staff quarters and they have a dilapidated toilet with no water facilities at the clinic yet they receive at least 40 patients in a day.

The same conditions were met in the health centers of Kamuganguzi Health center III and at Kasheregyenyi Health center III.

Tea leaves stored in a hospital room:

As the means of improvising for the source of income for the health center, Rubaya Health Center IV chose to grow tea. However, when the tea leave are harvested, they are stored in the outpatient department, OPD.

Patrick Besigye Keihwa, the kabale district chairperson commenting on the matter advised the healthy facility authorities to find somewhere else where to store the tea leaves, not in the OPD.

Minister Aceng is touring the whole of kigezi sub region inspecting health facilities to identify problems affecting the health sector to come up with possible solutions.
