Two men have been arrested for kidnapping a 17-year-old schoolgirl.
The girl, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, was kidnapped around Katwe on Friday afternoon.
The kidnappers were reportedly moving in a Nadia motor vehicle, registration number UAT 444D. But Katwe police acted on an eyewitness alert to inform different police stations about the suspected kidnap leading to a pursuit that forced the suspects to dump the girl in Nyanama, on the outskirts of Kampala.
The suspects have been identified as Dalus Mawanda, 39, a resident of Katwe-Bulenga and Abby Zziwa alias Galaf, 47, a resident Kanyanya all in Wakiso district.
Lately, the districts of Kampala, Wakiso and Greater Masaka have witnessed an increase in kidnaps involving adults and children. Akena was reportedly kidnapped on September 14 on his way to his rented house in Kisaasi, Nakawa Division. A postmortem report revealed that Akena was hit with a blunt object and then strangled.
A ten-year-old boy, Deus Tumwebaze, was also found killed with missing body parts. The boy who was kidnapped from Lyantonde district had been missing for two weeks. His abductors later called his parents and directed them where to pick the body.
On August 30, two bodies of a social worker Maria Nagirinya and her part-time driver Ronald Kitayimbwa were found in Mukono district a few days after they were reported missing. The duo was kidnaped in Lungujja outside Nagirinya’s home gate.
