The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah has been awarded with an Honorary Doctorate in Divinity from Zoe Life Theological College based in the United States of America, for his continued efforts in promoting peace.

“He was the UN special envoy to the Uganda peace talks between Government and the LRA; and he also participated in drafting the Juba Peace Agreements,” cited Dr. John Osapili, the Rector Zoe Life Theological College.

Speaking at the conferment ceremony at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Saturday, 13 July 2019, Oulanyah called on Ugandans to fight corruption by advocating against corrupt individuals.

He described corruption as, ‘an evil that has bedevilled the nation’ adding that individuals engaged in the vice are glorified other than being castigated.

“Do not encourage such people to make them feel good. Instead make them feel terrible and uncomfortable and let them enjoy their wealth in shame and loneliness,” Oulanyah said.

The African Chancellor Zoe Life Theological College, Archbishop Dr. Richard Ngozi Innocent, congratulated the recipients of the Honorary Doctorates and called on religious leaders to guide Ugandans on the right path.

“I would like to challenge the Church in Uganda to embrace theological training; it will help to overcome and completely defeat wrong doctrines,” said Archbishop Dr. Ngozi.
