Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone has officially joined Democratic Party (DP) ahead of the 2021 general elections. A few months ago, the ‘mateeka’ singer disclosed his intentions to run for Kampala Lord Mayor seat,  a position being held by Erias Lukwago who is also a member of Uganda’s oldest political party.

Chameleone had recently denied being affiliated to any political party, and assured his fans that he will be coming as an independent candidate, but on Wednesday, DP shared news through their social media platform that the singer will be coming on a ‘green’ ticket.

“Joseph Mayanja aka Dr. Jose Chameleone and his brother Pius Mayanja aka Pallaso have officially joined the Democratic Party. Jose Chameleone coming for Kampala Lord Mayor then Pallaso MP Kawempe South,” DP posted.

The singer couldn’t hide his excitement, as he also shared that people have given him a lot of confidence and there is no better way of paying them back other than standing for their power.

“At a high note, I Thank the entire Democratic Party comrades for honoring me this invite to your Headquarters at City House today evening to discuss the best way we can work together for the best benefit of our countrymen and country at large, I am standing with my people as they stood for me all along. #DpBlock #PeoplePowerOurPower,” he said.

Chameleone has always been an NRM diehard, but recently shocked social media when Capt Mike Mukula advised him to change his ideology on politics, this after President Yoweri Museveni had un-followed him on Twitter, but the singer refused to back down.

“Great men pave way for greater men, now that they didn’t, we shall pave our own way and for greater men after us,” Chameleone said recently.
