Ugandans have been challenged to embrace agriculture as the only way to increase food security and fight against malnourished cases amongst children in the country particularly Ntungamo district.
According to According to Bishop South Ankole diocese the Rt Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe it is unfortunate to find some Ugandans do not want to work yet they need to eat noting that it has fueled poverty at household level.
In 2016, Bishop Ahimbisibwe enrolled to farming after importing over 200 banana tubers from Israel and planted them in his farm found in Nyakaina Rukindo Ntungamo Municipality.
He noted that in the period of two years he has started harvesting bananas and banana tubers which are already in Ntungamo markets.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe noted that he has sold over 400 banana tubers to various farmers at 2,500/= each appealing farmers to use this season to plant high yielded plants.
He made the remarks on Monday while donating a bunch of banana to the Radio Ankole Staff as an appreciation for promoting agriculture through Radio programs.
In the farm there are other crops like coffee, passion fruits, pineapple, banana plantation and rearing of animals including pigs.
“Some fresh graduates are looming on streets seeking for jobs yet they have acquired knowledge and skills to create jobs but they are lamenting to government of un employment” he said.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe wants young people to be creative and embrace farming immediately after studies as the only way to overcome the challenges of poverty and un employment.
Early this year he hosted His Highness King John Wayabire of Bugweri Royal Kingdom for three days in his farm who hailed him for being one few bishops who are engaging in commercial farming model .
