The government chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu has attributed poverty at household level to parents who fail to educate their children even when government has provided good atmosphere for every child to study.
Nankabirwa said that poverty has remained in some communities because of ignorance and lack of basic education to transform their families.
This was containing in the message read by the Ankole Region NRM chief Whip who is also the Kashaari south MP Twesigye Nathan Itungo during fundraising drive to raise money for the construction of a class room block at Katunga SS in Butanda parish Ihunga Sub County, Kajara county Ntungamo district.
Katunga Secondary school was started way back in 2015 but meetings started their sittings in 2016 to be able to gather the ideas into a visible arrangement called a school with 23 students from senior one to senior three.
Hon Itungo urged parents and communities to be very keen on the education of their children for the brighter future.
The Mitooma district Woman MP Jovah Kamateeka challenged all Ugandans to embrace farming in order to improve food security for their school going children saying that they cannot concentrate and stay in schools when they are hungry.
Kamateeka hailed the area MP Timuzigu Michael Kamugisha for commitment to work for his electorate.
She also appealed to parliament to review the law on emoluments for district woman MPs saying that they have big coverage than fellow MPs.
The Ntungamo district woman MP Beatrice Rwakimaari condemned the rampant cases of defilement against school going child noting that it retarded the education of a girl child in Ntungamo district and Uganda at large.
The Kajara county MP Timuzigu Michael Kamugisha hailed the government of NRM for the able leadership of president Museveni which urshed in peace which has enabled Christians to supplement on the education of the country.
Timuzigu commended the chief guest and all stakeholders for honoring the invitation to come to build the school for their children.
The chairman board of governors Rev Can James Ndyanabo Rutaraaka commended the efforts of the Christians and their then priest Rev Milton Tindimwebwa of Katunga parish.
The head teacher Katunga SS Ezra Mugarura thanked all parents and stakeholders for cooperation and trust which has enabled the function to succeed.
The function was blessed by south Ankole diocese bishop Rt Rev Nathan Ahimbisbiwe with 1m shillings among others.
Over 32.5m shillings and 118 bags of cement were raised toward the construction of Katunga SS.
