In a bid to promote the study of Economics and improve the performance of the subject among A’ level students, 300 copies of summarised questions and answer books have been donated to students in Northern Uganda.
The books were donated by a research company called Adroit Consult International through the Northern Uganda Parliamentary Forum on 18 July, 2018 and received by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah at Parliament.
The Project Coordinator, Adroit Consult International, Moses Asasira said the book was published following research conducted in Northern and Eastern Uganda which showed the need to enhance the study of economics in the two regions.
“We realised that students pass because they have access to reading materials and yet students from the Northern and Eastern parts of the country do not have these resources,” said Asasira.
He added that the book was published as a way of promoting the study of Economics as a subject in A’Level.
“Economics is slowly getting phased out of the education curriculum because of the introduction of entrepreneurship. Uganda should not lose out on a very important subject,” he said.
Asasira however, called for quick distribution of books to benefit students who are scheduled to sit for their Uganda Advanced Certificate Education exams between October and November. He added that the books should be given to schools with resource centres.
“We do not want these books to end up in the houses of teachers instead of being utilised by the students in school libraries,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah said the donation from Adroit Consult International is a big contribution to the development of the country.
He also applauded the company for choosing Northern Uganda as the first beneficiary saying that the region has been war ravaged affecting education system.
“Northern Uganda has unique challenges which might seem less important to others, yet very important for those in the region,” said Oulanyah.
He urged the company to continuously conduct research saying that research enables evidence based interventions and decisions.
