3 men arrested for using commuter taxi to rob passengers

Police in Kireka on Wednesday arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing from a city commuter taxi passenger.

On 29th April 2018 Brian Mukisa a resident of Kireka boarded taxi Toyota Hiace UBB 408U heading to Kyambogo University Chapel for prayers.

The driver of the taxi told the victim to firmly close the window, while the taxi conductor stealthily picked money from the victims laptop bag.

The duo would later claim the taxi has jerked from around Banda stage and the victim had to alight, so he would take a boda boda to his destination.

The driver told the victim that since the vehicle had not reached the desired destination, the victim should not pay the taxi fare.

On reaching out for pocket change to pay the bodaboda rider he realized his money was missing and when he tried to access the vehicle to check if he had dropped it, the driver sped off prompting the victim to take a picture of the taxi, and reported to Kireka police.

A case of theft vide SD REF. 29/29/04/2018 was opened and with the help from the public, police was able to follow the given leads and apprehend the suspects from the Northern by pass where they waited for passengers, also impounding the vehicle.

The suspects; Semeo Sebulibe 39, Emmanuel Kabanda 38 and Yunus Oryema 29 are currently detained in Kireka.
