By Waswa Tenywa

His eminence the Mufti of Uganda sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubajje on Thursday graced the inauguration ceremony of sheikh Mubarack Sentala as the new Muslim district kadhi of lyantonde on the occasion that took place at the offices of Uganda Muslim supreme council in Lyantonde.

The new kadhi was sworn-in by Uganda Muslim supreme council electoral commission chairman hajji Ahmada Kayongo Nyago with the help of the commissioners.

In his submission during the occasion that attracted people of different calibers , the mufti applauded the Muslims of Lyantonde for the unity they exhibited among themselves and other religions which saw him being given a warm welcomed by both Muslims and officials from other religions and appealed to them to continue working hand in hand with other religions saying this may be the route for further development of the Islamic community in the country and the world at large.

Mufti also expressed pleasure over the happiness shown by Muslims and other religious leaders at the inauguration of the new Muslim district kadhi of the area arguing people to help the new district kadhi and work together with him to let Islam In the area prosper.

Mufti again changed the face and threatened to call for amendments in the constitution of the council to reduce the powers of Muslim councilors whom he blamed for failing the district kadhis at many times in connivance with the district chairmen.

‘’Councilors and chairmen, you are the reason why district kadhis fail to perform their responsibilities and duties at many times where some intimidate them because UMSC constitution gives you power to act upon the district kadhi but you have poorly used your powers and you’re becoming a problem, to this am going to push for the UMSC constitutional amendments to trim on your powers to save Islam,”said mufti.

He says in the amendments they will consider sheikhs to appoint and give them authority to fire the district kadhi if he fails to deliver to his expectation and that these will help to save the mufti from being contacted for every mistake instead of solving the mistakes on the district level.

Meanwhile the newly inaugurated district kadhi sheikh Sentala in his speech, thanked the people of Lyantonde for the support they forwarded to him in the process of climbing to the post he has attained.

Sheikh Sentala appealed to all the people of Lyantonde including non-Muslims to work with him for the development of Islam in the area and promised to deliver to his best.

Before reaching the swearing-in ceremony, mufti held a meeting with Lyantonde district local government led by the district chairman Fred Muhangi at the district headquarters and discussed several issues including the way Muslim schools in the district perform.

He after visited Lyantonde hospital from where he prayed for the patients in the hospital and thanked the district leadership led by the district chairman Muhangi for being aggressive towards development arguing them also to protect the hospital.

On the political side, the Kabula county, Lyantonde district member of parliament James Kakooza who also attended the event refuted claims by some media outlets that parliament is planning to tax holy books including Qurans, Bibles and evangelicals saying this is a total deceive.

He also argued Muslims to endeavor educating their children their religions saying this will help to curb the increasing crimes in the country and the world at-large.
