The Turkish Embassy working together with Turkey Friendship Association Uganda has today joined hands with different organizations in Uganda to celebrate the Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s Day which is celebrated every 23rd of April every year in turkey.

April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children’s Day is celebrated in Turkey as a national day since the Turkish War of liberation was waging and has been celebrated internationally since 1979 when UNESCO proclaimed 1979 as the International Year of the Child.

Turkey uses this day to remember the Turkish founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who fought much for the liberation of the country.

While presiding over today’s celebrations at Asia schools in kiteezi a suburb of Kampala , her excellence the Turkish ambassador to Uganda Sedef Yavuzalp said they use these day in turkey to remember and commemorate their country’s move from sultanate rule to parliamentary governance in the newly created republic of turkey.

The ambassador said they are celebrating such day because The founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk dedicated this important day to the children.

‘’Atatürk considered children as the future of a nation and endeavored to achieve modernization through educational reform. That is why through the educated children and youth, today Turkey has been able to reach the level of a contemporary, modern, industrialized nation. This has added strength and value to our state’’,said H.E sedef.

Ambassador sedef in her concluding remarks argued the children to implore all their efforts to attain education so that they become useful to their nations and be patriotic.

She at the same time be vigilant against foreign schools which finance terrorism. These schools are only a façade of illegal and criminal activities such as indoctrination, financing terrorism, money laundering and espionage. Such schools exist in Uganda.
