Kampala Operators Taxi Stages Association (KOTSA) has today vowed not to bow to the directive issued by President Yoweri Museveni to all tax operators in Kampala to pay shs720,000 annual levy.
The president while meeting different taxi transporters in kampala last week ordered them to pay annual fees of shs720,000 for those operating in kampala and shs840,000 for those going upcountry.
While speaking in a meeting with officials from traffic police at Gadhafi national mosque in kampala, Yasin Sematimba the chairman of KOTSA said they are going to engage all stakeholders to see that they sabotage the directive.
“The people who negotiated the said fees were not tax operators and didn’t know the people they advocated for I even told the president to scrap the fees because I knew my people will not afford it but they have gone a head to put the said fees in place” said Sematimba.
Meanwhile Aziz kiiza the secretary general of the organisation that advocates for the transport workers rights vowed to mobilize the tax operators to shun the planned elections which he says wasn’t discussed.
Norman Musinga the Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police commander revealed that they are working closely with the ministry of works and transport to introduce badges which the taxi drivers will wear to show that they are allowed to transport people.
“We are planning to work with the ministry of transport to institute budges that the drivers will wear and the badges will indicate the routes the drivers are supposed to follow.
