The URA Team 1 enforcement unit intercepted a “flying fuso” with assorted contraband worth USD 20,000 (over shs70 million)
On the night of 10th,January 2018 , the team gathered intel about a moving Fuso open truck Reg No. UAV 165S from Malaba border station carrying assorted high value items.The route of choice ;- Kayunga-Gayaza- Kiira-Namugongo to Kampala.
The team set itself up to intercept the suspected smugglers. As dawn drew closer, the team pitched camp along the Kyaliwajjala -Namugongo road continued to observe the vehicles passing by in anticipation of the suspected FUSO, munching on pancakes (kabalagala) to fend off sleep.
Half an hour later, the Fuso appeared “flying low”.A brief chase brought it to a halt. Upon cross cheking the documents in consultation with the officers back in the office, it was discovered that the occupants of the Fuso truck indeed had fake documents.
The Fuso truck and the items were towed to Nakawa and verification unearthed the following uncustomed items ;-
(a) 14,620 rolls of Tough Bailey Twines
(b) 11 Bales totaling to 1.3 tonnes of used Shoes .
(c) 100 Cartoons x 8kgs of Daddy branded Lolipop Sweets .
(d) other assorted items
