South Sudan rebel arrested for recruiting Ugandan youths

Koboko – Police in Koboko have arrested one Colonel Data John Taban, 51years, a South Sudan national over recruitment of rebels.

He hails from Yei in South Sudan but he has been temporarily residing in Koboko Municipality.

According to West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, SP Josephine Anguncia, Taban was arrested on 19/2017 by a joint military team on allegation of recruitment of rebels.

“According to information got from some of the witnesses who came back from South Sudan rebels training camp that were recruited by him, he deceives the youths with promise of taking them for jobs in Arua and South Sudan,

However after accepting to move, they end up at South Sudan military training grounds for rebel activities” Josephine explained.

She adds that the recruits have mainly been Kakwa of Uganda and South Sudan origins two of whom confessed their ordeal in their statements as others are yet to report to Koboko CPS to pin Data and the team.

Upon interrogation Col Data, admitted having recruited some people.

He was charged with recruitment and training contrary to section 9(1c) and 2 of Terrorism Act as Inquiries continue in to the matter.
