The new Ugandan ambassador to Algeria, John Chrysostom Alintuma Nsambu, has presented his credentials to the country’s foreign minister Abdelkader Messahel.
The event took place on September 28, 2017, according to the official statement from the Algerian government.
Mr Nsambu who completed his tour of duty in Canada where he was named the Best Export Promotion Ambassador 2015 by the Uganda Export Promotions Board, has already started working at his office in Algeria from where he oversees Tunisia, Kingdom of Morocco, and Mauritania.
Algeria, the largest country in Africa, has the second largest reserves of oil on the continent and the largest defense budget. Uganda, which is setting up its oil infrastructure, is looking at Algeria among the country to learn key lessons in managing the resource.
It should be noted that the Algerians have had long ties with the NRM government springing from the 70s when Algeria offered the Ugandan exiles weapons to overthrew Idi Amin. This website has established that a lot of weapons including the legendary B21 rockets that came to be known locally as Saba Saba, which made Amin’s soldiers run for dear life, were got from Algeria.
Mr. Nsambu who studied Police Science and International relations at the United States International University in San Diego and at the Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany, has set his eyes on improving opportunities for Ugandan in Algeria in the areas of education, trade, investment and sports development as part of his tour of duty in Algeria.
The politician turned diplomat represented Bukoto East for two terms in Parliament and was the first state minister for Information and Communication Technology in 2006.
