A section of opposition members have come up with a fundraise drive to save journalist William Ntege popularly known as Kyuma Kya Yesu from ‘rotting’ in jail.
Kyuma Kya Yesu was arrested and jailed in Mubende Police station on Monday after physically attacking Kasanda South County MP Simeo Nsubuga who he confronted for supporting the removal of age limit.
The fundraise drive is spearheaded by Dr. Kizza Besigye’s aide Ronald Muhinda and its aimed at raising legal fees for Kyuma Kya Yesu.
So far shs222,176 has been raised towards the cause.
Once the fundraising is done, money will be given to Human Rights Network for Journalists- Uganda (HRNJ) and Ntege’s wife to support the incarcerated Ntege.
Apparently many opposition members and the general public perceive Kyuma Kya Yesu as a ‘hero’.
“Its past 48 hours since Kyuma Kya Yesu Ntege was arrested and detained at Mubende Police Station we demand that he either be immediately produced to court or be released on police bond. Respect the constitution please,” Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze said.
