On Sunday 7th May 2017, residents of Nakaloke Mbale staged a demonstration against the officer in charge of Nakaloke Police Station ASP Oliver Namudoola. The residents were concerned with the security situation following a burglary and theft from a shop belonging to Kadu Joseph that had taken place two days ago.

In the course of investigations, a police dog was brought in by the police to provide clues about the suspects, the route used and possible recovery of stolen items. The police dog tracked the route towards Nakaloke police station where the owner of the shop had earlier had earlier gone to report following discovery of the crime. All the stolen items have been recovered from a different location other than the police barracks but within Nakaloke town.

The residents were enraged by this trend of events and rioted . In the ensuing scuffle, a field force officer Sunday Habib shot at the residents and injured three of them namely Mulono Lydia, Libo Dickson and Lwanga Bruhan.

Following this incident , the RPC Elgon region together with his professional standard Unit arrested the OC, ASP Namudoola Oliver and Sunday Habib for the shooting and investigations continue to establish all those responsible for the burglary and theft . The rest of the officers have not been transferred out of the district but are helping in this investigation at Mbale Police station.

The UPF regrets this incident and pledges to leave no stone unturned in prosecuting all those involved in the theft, shooting and poor management of the station.
