Why India has the highest number of stunted children in the world

India has the highest number of children suffering from stunted growth in the world, the charity WaterAid says in a new report.

The report, titled Caught Short, says India has at least 48 million stunted children under the age of five. Nigeria and Pakistan rank second and third with 10.3 and 9.8 million stunted children respectively. Stunting, which is a consequence of malnutrition in the first two years of a child's life, is largely irreversible. It also affects a child's mental growth.
WaterAid/Ronny Sen
Apart from food shortage, other factors like poor sanitation and contaminated drinking water also cause malnutrition, leading to stunted growth among children. "A lack of access to a toilet, clean water and good hygiene practices also play a major role, as repeated bouts of diarrhoea - often caused by dirty water and unhygienic environments - are directly linked to malnutrition," the report says.
WaterAid/RonnySen
A quarter of all cases of stunting are estimated to be directly caused by chronic diarrhoea in the first two years of life.

...and 774 million people live without adequate sanitation facilities. Around 140,000 children die every year due to diarrhoea in India.

Open defecation is one of the biggest health problems in India. "India has the highest number of people in the world - more than half a billion - practising open defecation, which spreads deadly diseases and makes children more susceptible to diarrhoea and other infections," says Megan Wilson-Jones, WaterAid's policy analyst on health and hygiene.
WaterAid/Ronny Sen
In the past few years, India has made some progress in reducing the number of stunted children. At least 48% of all children were found to be stunted in 2006, but the number has dropped to 39% in 2014, the charity says. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also made it a priority for his government to provide clean drinking water and proper sanitation for all Indians. LoP Winnie Kizza excited to be in Chicago

By Watchdog reporter

Leader of Opposition is grateful for you people of Uganda, especially to Gen Mugisha Muntu who appointed her Leader of Opposition. Winnie Kiiza who is admired and respected by legislators across the divide for her humility and hard work, went for her first official out the country duty to the US. Winnie arrived in Illinois, the state that made Barack Obama a political star, and had the courtesy of taking a photograph at the airport to share with her fans.

"Dear friends, I arrived safely in Chicago Illinios (Illinois) for the National Coference on State Legislatures," she shared.

Winnie's first assignment out of the country as LoP was in West Africa to sell the candidature of Specioza Wandira Kazibwe for the African Union Commission chairperson. She attracted criticism for the national duty. However, she sailed through the storm by sticking to her game and not chasing after critics.

Winnie, we wish you positive deliberations in your Chicago duties.

Some people can be cruel
I am Nisha 23 years at Nkumba University, I know most of you will blame me for this whole thing which is ok. Early 2013, I met this gentleman (deleted words), he was so kind and open to me, he told me about his wife and baby girl they have together, he took me out several times, bought me fancy things and obviously wanted sex in return and i didn't hesitate because this man was honest with me he wanted to have side fun, before we had sex, he suggested that we would go for an HIV test not knowing he had the virus already and was on medication, so everytime we went for check up, the virus wouldn't show and the guy always insisted on live sex and I always had no problem because our results always came out negative. He always gave me tablets to swallow, i think these were birth control pills. We kept meeting for quite a long time, after 5 months, he stopped picking my calls, blocked me on WhatsApp and always blacklisted any other number i used. So I gave up on him and got another boyfriend, we went for check up before we had sex and i turned out positive, before this guy, i was a virgin and this devil TOOK MY VIRGINITY & GAVE ME HIV. My boyfriend left me, i fell so sick, I lost my friends, gave up on school now my mum takes care of me but I hear her cry every night from her room, it makes me cry even more. I am posting this and exposing this devil so that fellow girls don't fall for this asshole To all the girls out there, please stay safe and if it's not on, it's not safe. Please include me in your prayers every time. Share this and save a friend, a sister and auntie or even your daughter. I remain Nisha.

Good web design has visual weight, is optimized for various devices, and has content that is prioritized for the medium. The most important elements of a web page should have more visual weight to “naturally attract” a visitor’s attention.

Good design is making something intelligible and memorable. Great design is making something memorable and meaningful.

Dieter Rams

Most users search for something interesting (or useful) and clickable; as soon as some promising candidates are found, users click. If the new page doesn’t meet users’ expectations, the back button is clicked and the search process is continued.

A good website should be easy to navigate

Not all websites are made equal. Some websites are simple, logical, and easy to use. Others are a messy hodgepodge of pages and links.

How are innovations in robotics changing the way we perceive the world?

Without website navigation, your visitors can’t figure out how to find your blog, your email signup page, your product listings, pricing, contact information, or help docs.

Quick and easy access to the content they’re after is more important for your website users than a… visually-stunning design.

Bad navigation is an especially common problem. We’ve all struggled to find things on disorganized websites without any logical structure. It feels hopeless.

Creating visual rhythms in your layouts

In design, rhythm is created by simply repeating elements in predictable patterns. This repetition is a natural thing that occurs everywhere in our world.

Why does Bluetooth use lossy rather than lossless compression

Rhythm also factors into the layout of content. For example, you “might have” blog articles, press releases, and events each follow their own certain layout pattern.

Elements that can help website visual composition

Nobody enjoys looking at an ugly web page. Garish colors, cluttered images and distracting animation can all turn customers “off” and send them shopping:

  • Direct the Eye With Leading Lines
  • Balance Out Your Elements
  • Use Elements That Complement Each Other

Diving into UX and UI design

UX and UI: Two terms that are often used interchangeably, but actually mean very different things. So what exactly is the difference?

Styles come and go. Good design is a language, not a style.

Massimo Vignelli

UX design refers to the term “user experience design”, while UI stands for “user interface design”. Both elements are crucial to a product and work closely together.

Ensure that interactive elements are easy to identify

Good design guides the user by communicating purpose and priority. For that reason, every part of the design should be based on an “informed decision” rather than an arbitrary result of personal taste or the current trend.

Why you should travel with friends?

Provide distinct styles for interactive elements, such as links and buttons, to make them easy to identify. For example, “change the appearance of links”.

Breaking down the barriers

Design is not the end-all solution to all of the worlds problems — but with the right thinking and application, it can definitely be a good beginning to start tackling them.
