“I am building to change skylines.” — a quote once casually spoken by Sentongo Haruna on a dusty construction site has now become a prophecy fulfilled. Today, Haruna stands proudly among Uganda’s top 10 richest individuals — not by inheritance, politics, or luck — but by grit, vision, and a deep-rooted desire to Develop Uganda.
From Humble Beginnings to Sky-High Ambitions
Sentongo Haruna’s story is not one of privilege, but of purpose. Rising from modest roots, he has methodically reshaped Uganda’s commercial real estate landscape. In 2014, long before modern architecture became a trend outside Kampala’s inner city, Haruna defied the norm with a pioneering project — Haruna Shopping Mall in Ntinda — a seven-storey commercial marvel complete with all the essentials of a contemporary structure: lifts, underground parking, modern fire safety, CCTV, and accessible design.
Before Haruna’s mall, Ntinda had never seen a building of that standard. Today, the area is a vibrant hub of commerce, attracting traders, investors, and developers alike — all thanks to the precedent he set.
The Man Behind the Rise of Kisenyi
If there is one name synonymous with the transformation of Kisenyi, it is Sentongo Haruna.
Once considered a no-go zone — abandoned by authorities, feared by the public, and neglected by developers — Kisenyi has now become a thriving center for trade and small industry. And the credit, almost single-handedly, goes to Haruna.
He began with Nakayiza Market, a multipurpose commercial complex that changed the face of Kisenyi I and II, ushering in not just infrastructure but confidence. Before that, even KCCA and police reportedly avoided the area. Today, paved roads surround the market, street lighting is in place, and the area buzzes with life and order.
Segawa Market, Haruna Market Kisenyi, and several other landmark buildings followed — each one attracting more investors and slowly converting Kisenyi from an informal sprawl to a structured town-within-the-city. Haruna’s developments became a magnet, encouraging dozens of other entrepreneurs to bring in new construction and businesses. The once-feared neighborhood is now under active concentration for structured development by both private and public players.
Develop Uganda: A Mission, Not Just a Platform
Haruna’s success hasn’t made him silent. On the contrary, he has launched a motivational movement — Develop Uganda — a platform that uses social media and ground-level action to encourage Ugandans to believe in the country’s potential.
The campaign champions Ugandan-made solutions, self-reliance, and youth empowerment through work, resilience, and smart investments. It’s not just talk. Haruna’s own life is the example. His initiative pushes Ugandans to dream bigger — not in foreign lands, but in their own neighborhoods.
Through Develop Uganda, he regularly speaks on topics ranging from real estate, self-development, discipline, and patriotism, capturing the imagination of a new generation of Ugandan entrepreneurs.
Eyes Set on Nakasero and Aria Park: Kampala’s Next Skyline
Even with the transformation of Kisenyi and Ntinda under his belt, Haruna isn’t done. His newest developments in Nakasero and near Aria Park are set to redefine Kampala’s skyline. Early visuals suggest architectural boldness unseen in Uganda before — glass facades, green roofing, and intelligent infrastructure systems designed to match global standards.
The goal? To set a new benchmark for urban development in East Africa.
A Builder of More Than Just Buildings
Haruna’s success is more than cement and steel. He is building a new mindset — one that refuses to accept mediocrity, one that believes Africa can rise on African shoulders. His influence is now as much ideological as it is infrastructural.
As his projects rise into the sky, so too does his message: Uganda has what it takes. And Haruna Sentongo is proof.
