The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija has appointed Agnes Tibayeita Isharaza the new National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal.
Her appointment comes under Section 41(1) of the NSSF Act, and she is to assume office effectively on 1st April 2019, for a period of five years.
Isharaza’s appointment comes as a recommendation by the NSSF Board of Directors after her predecessor Richard Wejuli Wabwire was appointed a High Court judge in February last year.
Reacting to her appointment, Isharaza said she was grateful for the trust and confidence showed in her by the appointing authority.
“The fund has a unique mandate in the socio-economic development of Uganda and I am pleased to join an institution with a proven high-performance culture. I look forward to contributing to the attainment of the Fund’s 2025 Strategic Plan,” she said.
Isharaza is a seasoned lawyer with over 16 years’ experience.
Before the latest appointment, she was the chief legal officer /company secretary of the underfire dfcu bank.
She was also a member of dfcu’s executive committee and several management committees. Until 2014, she concurrently held the position of corporation secretary, dfcu Limited.
She was a member of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) board of directors from 2011-2017 representing the Uganda Bankers Association, where she chaired the legal and regulatory affairs committee.
In 2017, she was listed on the General Counsel Africa Power List by Legal 500, a series of publications that highlight and recognize the most influential in-house lawyers driving the legal business forward.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University, a Post Graduate Diploma, Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre and an Executive MBA, Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (Esami).
In 2017, she was nominated for the Women in Law Awards, Best Female Corporate Lawyer (Corporations) category and emerged in the top three
She has also attended several pieces of training over the years including board/corporate governance training from the prestigious Institute of Directors in Southern Africa and the Financial Times Non-Executive Directors Club, UK.
In addition, she is a 2018 Graduate of the Female Future Programme, which promotes women to top decision-making positions through training in leadership development and board competencies.
