Religious freedoms under threat as Rwanda also ban mosques from using loudspeakers

The government of Rwanda has banned mosques from using loudspeakers to call for prayers in some parts of its capital, Kigali.
The ban comes following the closure of about 700 churches for not complying with building regulations and noise pollution guidelines.

The move would be condemned by religious freedoms advocates, as infringing on right of worship, much as it is believed the Rwandan government would not be moved.

The authorities in Kigali have already cracked a whip on mosques within the capital, Kigali, utilizing loudspeakers in the name to prayer. Authorities say calls made five times a day, disturb the peace of residents in the muslim dominates Nyarugenge district, which also houses the capital’s largest mosques.
Last month more than 700 churches were closed for not complying with building and noise pollution rules.
