It was a perfect weekend invitation to have a Mediterranean experience in Kampala city.

This experience at the new iconic hotel on Nsambya hill overlooking Kampala city called Mestil Hotel and Residences has been a project of about two and half years which as transformed the face of Nsambya hill with this masterpiece of architecture.

The hotel is an imposing structure one cannot ignore. It opened its doors to the public quietly on Monday – December 11. Yet, the whispers have become louder that one of the most beautiful hotels in Kampala is already welcoming visitors.

This hotel stands at what used to be an eye sore that was Nsambya police barracks, off Mukwano Road. A road lined up with bamboo trees has been laid from the Mukwano bypass, to the hotel. It is out of the chaotic hustle and bustle of Kampala yet you have an actual feel of living within the city.

There are 23 executive rooms and 75 suites all finished with rustic floors. All suites are spacious with a great view of the city. There are two conference halls; Mabira and Budongo, which actually can be joined into one on request. There is also a boardroom for hire, if a group of people want a more private place to hold a board or executive meeting. There are screens fitted for the occasion in case the group has a presentation to make.

The bedrooms and suites are really enchanting with each room given an Italian décor touch which makes a guest feel like they are southern Italy. If you the type who loves authentic décor and architecture, this is what you need to check out.

The hotel also has the Sanaar spa which has three massage rooms, a sauna, steam bath, and relaxation rooms. This is what any of the hard working Kampalan or visitor needs at the end of the day’s work. Not to mention the gym this takes at least 50 people for fitness exercises.

Mr Sven Saint-Calbe, Mestil’s general manager said, “By introducing a fresh hospitality experience to Kampala, Uganda compliments an exciting new development in the hotel and tourism sector. The combination of high standard apartments, first class facilities and the prime location will be a great attraction to medium and long stay guests.”

Built by Roko and Symbion, two respected construction companies, the Mestil hotel and residences has added over 150 rooms to Kampala’s world class accommodation facilities and already has employed about 67 people. More openings are coming up as the hotel gets busier.

Ms Jackie Kwesiga, the sales manager told journalists the four star hotel was already busy in the evenings, and welcomes more people to make their bookings for Christmas and New Year festivities. “There is no better place to view end of year fireworks celebrations better than our location. Guests are already booking. Book too,” she said, referring to Mestil as the epitome of serenity, luxury, attention to detail, yet the hotel is natural and warm.

“The idea is ‘bespoke tailored for each individual or family to make their vacation or travel trip to Uganda easier and more enjoyable,” Saint-Calbre added.

Don’t miss out eating out at Amber restaurant and a catch a drink at the Times bar or coffee at the Blends coffee shop.
