If your hindrance to visit national parks was transport, Uganda Wildlife Authority has made it easy for you. You can now visit Lake Mburo, Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, Kidepo, Bwindi among other national parks at a fraction of the cost.
On Tuesday, executive buses branded UWA have been driven around Kampala city as part of the launch which took place on Monday.
The minister of state for tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi launched the five buses, an initiative by the wildlife conservation body, UWA, put in place to see more Ugandans visiting national parks at less costs.
The initiative, prior fought by tour agencies, finally was flagged off at the Uganda Museum in Kamwokya thanks to the visionary bearer Dr Andrew Seguya.
Dr Seguya is an innovative technocrat, has been vending this dream for the last six years. He says private tour companies have done an amazing job marketing Uganda to the foreigners but have not tapped into low income earners in Uganda, who UWA wants to also see around the parks.
Last year, Dr Seguya told this website that he wants more people, especially Ugandans to visit national parks and appreciate their role in conservation. He added that the parks are not receiving enough local visitors due to transport constraints to these reserves since they are located far away from town centres where public transport stops.
UWA is therefore hitting two birds with one stone; ensuring more Ugandans visit parks as well as marketing tourism to locals.
UWA acquired a grant from the CEDEP to procure these buses that are primarily for tourism.
Mr Kiwanda said at the launch that the five executive buses will promote domestic tourism in Uganda by taking Ugandans to national parks.
