Vipers travel to Tunisia with sights on Confederations Cup group stages

Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers SC’s 25-man delegation, headed by Fufa Executive committee member Rogers Byamukama, has left for Tunisia, ahead of their Caf Confederations Cup playoff return leg against Club Sportiff Sfaxien at the Tareb Mhiri Stadium on Saturday.

The team, which comprises 17 players and eight officials departed on Friday morning aboard Turkish Airlines to Istanbul before connecting to Tunis.

Club captain Taddeo Lwanga is available for the do or die game but the Venoms will miss left back Yayo Lutimba through suspension while goalkeeper Bashir Sekagya is still out with an injury that he sustained against CS Constantine in Algeria.

Kenyan head coach Micheal Nam Ouma dropped former Police Fc midfielder Rahmat Senfuka, forwards Davis Kasirye, Joseph Janjali and Noah Wafula for this game for tactical reason despite making the squad in the first leg.

Young striker Steven Mukwala is in line for his continental debut after making the squad despite being frozen out of the first team for most of the first round and was not chosen for the games against El Merriekh, Cs Constantine, and the first leg in Kampala.

Goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora, despite starting at home last Saturday against the Tunisian side, travels with the Venoms for the first time as the shot stopper missed the last two away games through injury.

Vipers requires a win of any kind or a scoring draw to qualify for the group stages for the first time in the club history. The first leg played on Saturday ended in a goalless draw.
